David K. Ornstein, MD, commenced his career as faculty member of the University of North Carolina upon completing his urologic oncology fellowship. There, he specialized in urologic oncology and commenced his research into the identification of new prostate cancer biomarkers. He then joined the faculty of the University of California, Irvine, prior to taking on a clinical role at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center and the Todd Cancer Institute as Medical Director of Urologic Oncology and Robotic Surgery (2006-2009). In 2009, Dr. Ornstein became a founding member of the Prostate Cancer Institute of 21st Century Oncology and launched Advanced Urology & Robotic Surgery. He is an extensively published author of book chapters, manuscripts, and review articles. He was a professor, proctor, and lecturer on robotic surgery, the proper use of the PSA test, and on other methods for early prostate cancer detection. Moreover, Dr. Ornstein has performed numerous live robotic surgeries, one of which was a female cystectomy at a robotic symposium in Seoul, South Korea. David K. Ornstein, MD, attended Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, KY, and received his medical degree in 1992. He then served his urology residency at the same educational venue, during which time he was honored with an American Cancer Society Clinical Oncology Fellowship. Furthermore, he conducted his fellowship training in urologic oncology at the National Cancer Institute, where he specialized in both laparoscopic and open surgery for kidney cancer. In addition, Dr. Ornstein received board certification in urology from the American Board of Urology. He maintains active professional memberships with the American Association of Cancer Research, the American Urological Association, the Society of Basic Urologic Research, and the Society of Urologic Oncology. In addition to his medical degree, he holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biochemistry acquired at the University of Pennsylvania in 1988. He was named among the 2009 Physicians of Excellence by the Orange County Medical Association and listed among Best Doctors in American (2006-2012).
