David K. Ornstein, MD, attended Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, KY, and received his medical degree in 1992. He then served his urology residency at the same educational venue, during which time he was honored with an American Cancer Society Clinical Oncology Fellowship. Furthermore, he conducted his fellowship training in urologic oncology at the National Cancer Institute, where he specialized in both laparoscopic and open surgery for kidney cancer. In addition, Dr. Ornstein received board certification in urology from the American Board of Urology. He maintains active professional memberships with the American Association of Cancer Research, the American Urological Association, the Society of Basic Urologic Research, and the Society of Urologic Oncology. In addition to his medical degree, he holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biochemistry acquired at the University of Pennsylvania in 1988. He was named among the 2009 Physicians of Excellence by the Orange County Medical Association and listed among Best Doctors in American (2006-2012). A Castle Connolly Top Doctor in 2012, Dr. Ornstein has received a Young Investigator Award from CaPCURE and the Edwin Beer Award from the New York Academy of Medicine while at the University of North Carolina, as well as the Best Abstract Prize in the prostate cancer category at the 2001 meeting of the American Urologic Association and the 2007 Young Investigator Award from the Society of Urologic Oncology.
